Nelson Bay - Port Stephens

About Us

Member of the Australian Performing Arts Association and the Australian National Choir Association

The SeaSide Singers Community Choir was formed in the Tomaree Peninsula area of Port Stephens in March 2009 with members from all over the Port Stephens area.

It is a non-profit Community Choir consisting of approximately 30 members of all ages. Please contact us for meeting places and times during school terms.

The founders are Diana Souter, graduate of the London College of Music, and her husband, Ronald Souter, a retired Accountant and singer. SeaSide Singers is an incorporated association, with an enthusiastic committee, each with expertise in their allocated areas of responsibility. The committee meets monthly to manage the choir and set the direction of the choir.

We enjoy fun and educational experiences to develop and express our musical potential via song, performing at fund-raising concerts, community gatherings and town festivals.

What We Do

The activities fostered within the choir setting allow members to sing and learn music. We enjoy regular social activities, which enhance  camaraderie within the group.

Our aim is to have a substantial choir of sufficient numbers to produce high quality singing that the community supports and is proud of. Seaside Singers are in demand as a community choir, performing for a variety of festivals, events and civic occasions.

Testimonial from a recently joined member

With a lifelong love of singing, I joined the choir thinking it would be easy.  I’ll be right, I thought, of course I know all the songs from singing along to the radio etc for 50 plus years.

Well to my surprise I was directed to the lovely ALTO group (this means the harmony for those uninitiated like me).  So … the tune/notes are often differ from the melody.

Big learning curve.  I became frustrated at myself being unable to hold a tune against others singing different notes beside me.  However, the wonderful crew that make up the choir have encouraged, enlightened and assisted me to find my place and voice in this wonderful choir. After just 8 months I feel I’m now contributing to the beautiful harmonies the choir sings.

I’d encourage anyone to come along and have a go.  What a wonderful thing, to sing our way through retirement.
